Purpose
To recognise outstanding achievements by Local Government in managing and protecting the environment.
Overview
There are 13 award categories made up of 'Silver' awards and our most prestigious 'Gold' awards. To be eligible to enter the Local Sustainability category (Gold award), an organisation must have entered in at least three other award categories in the current or previous 2 years, as well as completing a specific Local Sustainability application form.

Eligibility
Councils, county councils, regional groups of councils and other council-based organisations are eligible to enter.
For each of the awards, there are four divisions based on the type of organisation and a council's population base:
- Division A: for councils with a population less than 30,000
- Division B: for councils with a population of 30,000-100,000
- Division C: for councils with a population of more than 100,000
- Division D: for JOs, ROCs and County Councils
