This initiative aims to help Tasmanian small businesses better understand their energy use, identify opportunities to reduce both energy consumption and costs, and implement energy-saving measures.

The Tasmanian Government has launched the PowerSmart for Small Business program, providing grants of up to $1,000 to small businesses for energy efficiency audits.

Key benefits of the program include:

• Up to $450,000 in annual funding available for four years, depending on program uptake.
• Grants up to $1,000 to reimburse small businesses for energy audits.
• The flexibility for businesses to choose their own energy auditor - no accredited provider list required.
• The option of having a proposed energy audit scope pre-approved as eligible under the program to provide certainty of support before the audit is undertaken.
• Simple on-line access.

Once the audit is completed, small businesses can submit the audit report and invoice to receive the grant.

To be eligible for a grant you must:

1. have an active Australian Business Number (ABN) continuously since on or before 1 March 2024*
2. employ between 1 and 19 full time equivalent (FTE) employees**
3. be a business primarily operating in Tasmania
4. have paid for, and received, an independent energy efficiency audit in line with these guidelines after 11 April 2024.
