Purpose

The bursary fosters an appreciation of the city's local history and heritage, encouraging individuals to document issues of historical significance to Ipswich, and making it accessible to the community.

Overview

The Viva Cribb Bursary provides funding to individuals, local not-for-profit community groups, and professional historians towards the costs of a project which documents or records a significant aspect of the local history of Ipswich.

On completion, a digital copy of the project must be provided for inclusion on Ipswich Libraries' Picture Ipswich website. If appropriate (i.e. written histories) a physical copy of the project must be provided for inclusion in the Ipswich Central and Rosewood Libraries' History Rooms and the National edeposit service. The project must be completed within 12 months of approval of funds

Possible themes include:

  • Architecture (commercial, domestic, ecclesiastical, industrial, institutional, educational, gardens and yards)
  • Community life (commemoration, community organisations, education, entertainment and the arts, life experiences, recreation, spiritual life, sports) 
  • Economy (agriculture and food production, business and retail, finance, industry and manufacturing, labour and work, mining, science and technology, tourism) 
  • First Nations
  • Movement and Land Use (communication, demographics, growth and development, infrastructure and utilites, landscapes and natural environment, migration, transport)
  • Power and Control (state/federal government, defence, health and welfare, law and order, local council).

Limitations

To be eligible for funding under the Viva Cribb Bursary Program, applicants and applications must adhere to the following criteria:

  • an individual or a community group participating in a not-for-profit capacity
  • an adult 18 years of age or over

Ineligibility:

  • government agencies or departments of local, state or federal government
  • educational, religious or medical organisations, where the application is for the organisation’s core business
  • individuals where the application is for content directly related to educational coursework, study or research.

Note: Applicants who are professional historians/writers can apply, however, the Bursary funds cannot be used towards living expenses. Funding for professionals, as with all individuals and not-for-profit groups, is only available for costs related to research materials, publishing and other legitimate expenses related to the project.
