Purpose

This Private Sector Pathways (PSP) Challenge aims to provide opportunities for innovative Queensland-based organisations to assist Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships (QPWS&P) within the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) to develop, deploy, and refine crocodile detection technologies.

Overview

The goal of the challenge is to enhance public safety, support crocodile management, decision-making and strengthen coexistence with estuarine crocodiles in Queensland's waterways.

QPWS&P has partnered with Advance Queensland to seek innovative solutions that will improve the detection of estuarine crocodiles using scientific, technological, and data-driven approaches.

This collaboration aims to:

  • address these key objectives: Strengthen public safety measures through real-time detection, remote warning systems, and enhance risk management strategies in line with the Queensland Crocodile Management Plan (QCMP).
  • Empower communities with 'Be Crocwise' awareness by enhancing education initiatives and promoting responsible behaviour in crocodile habitats.
  • Minimise human-wildlife conflict by encouraging behaviour that reduces the risk of negative crocodile interactions and promote coexistence by integrating innovative detection technology with conservation efforts, ensuring both public safety and the protection of crocodile populations.
  • Enhance the effective implementation of the Queensland Crocodile Management Plan (QCMP) and its objective to manage crocodiles in a consistent manner based on crocodile management zones.

Limitations

The Private Sector Pathways (PSP) Program supports innovative small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) based in Queensland to collaborate with corporate partners to develop commercialisation opportunities.
