This grant round will help councils deliver urban tree canopy, biodiverse understorey plantings and support urban greening in areas of low canopy and high urban heat that are targeted for housing growth, particularly low and mid-rise housing areas.

The objectives of the 2025 Greening our City grant round are to:

• deliver tree canopy and biodiverse understorey plantings that reduce urban heat, increase liveability and support biodiversity in urban areas

• prioritise urban greening projects in low canopy and high urban heat areas

• support projects that align with the Biodiversity in Place Framework

• support projects that service areas identified under the Low and Mid-rise Housing Policy

• support projects that align with local urban greening strategies and canopy targets, including those developed under the Greener Neighbourhoods program

• support projects that enhance use of public places, through cooling and greening of streets, parks, public plazas and active transport routes

• support projects that demonstrate principles of Connecting to Country

This program is administered by Planning, Land Use, Housing and Strategy.
