Purpose

Continuing the Tasmanian Government's commitment to supporting compliance with the Waste and Resource Recovery Act 2022, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Waste Levy and Data Readiness Program for operators of landfill and resource recovery facilities.

Overview

The program provides a financial contribution of up to $50,000 (GST exclusive) to help facilities with the cost of modifying systems, processes, and infrastructure to support:

  • the effective collection and management of waste data

  • compliance with reporting obligations under the Waste and Resource Recovery Act 2022.

Limitations

Eligible applicants must:

  • Operate a facility that is defined as a landfill or resource recovery facility in Sections 4 and 5 of the Act and in Part 2 of the Regulations.
  • Be an Australian registered business and have an Australian Business Number (ABN).
  • Be registered for Goods and Services Tax (GST).
  • In the case of a joint or consortium application, nominate a principal applicant. The principal applicant must be nominated in writing and provide written evidence of the support and degree of project involvement of all parties.
  • Not be insolvent and not have owners/directors who are an undischarged bankrupt. Be operating legally in accordance with relevant environmental licences and legal conditions.
  • Disclose any past convictions contravening any environment protection legislation or regulation in the last five years. Past convictions will be considered and do not necessarily exclude applicants from successfully applying for funding under this grant program.
  • Be able to demonstrate that they have appropriate Work Cover and Public Liability Insurance for the proposed project.
  • Not be under external administration or have had applications for orders to appoint liquidators, or to be wound up or dissolved, or any other action relating to insolvency.
