Purpose

The Australian Geographic Awards for Nature is the Australian Geographic Society's flagship funding program for nature. It supports outstanding, community-driven conservation projects across Australia.

Overview

Funding is offered annually at three tiers - $20,000, $30,000 and $50,000 - for practical, science-based work that protects biodiversity, restores ecosystems and strengthens resilience to environmental threats.

Funding Tiers:

  • Gold - $50,000:  Established programs with proven impact.
  • Silver - $30,000: Growing programs with demonstrated success ready to scale.
  • Bronze - $20,000:  Early-stage or local projects with strong potential and clear plans.

Expression of interest opens 5 January to 27 February 2026.

Limitations

Applicants must be:

  • Registered charities and not-for-profits
  • Conservation NGOs, Landcare groups and community organisations
  • First Nations organisations
  • Universities and research institutes (for applied work)
  • Environmental trusts, foundations and social enterprises
  • Citizen-science organisations
  • Individuals auspiced by an eligible organisation
