Purpose
The Australian Geographic Awards for Nature is the Australian Geographic Society's flagship funding program for nature. It supports outstanding, community-driven conservation projects across Australia.
Overview
Funding is offered annually at three tiers - $20,000, $30,000 and $50,000 - for practical, science-based work that protects biodiversity, restores ecosystems and strengthens resilience to environmental threats.
Funding Tiers:
- Gold - $50,000: Established programs with proven impact.
- Silver - $30,000: Growing programs with demonstrated success ready to scale.
- Bronze - $20,000: Early-stage or local projects with strong potential and clear plans.
Expression of interest opens 5 January to 27 February 2026.
Limitations
Applicants must be:
- Registered charities and not-for-profits
- Conservation NGOs, Landcare groups and community organisations
- First Nations organisations
- Universities and research institutes (for applied work)
- Environmental trusts, foundations and social enterprises
- Citizen-science organisations
- Individuals auspiced by an eligible organisation
