Purpose
Support if you've lost income as a direct result of North Queensland Rainfall and Flooding that started in December 2025 to January 2026.
Overview
If you're eligible, you'll get the maximum equivalent rate of JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance, depending on your personal circumstances.
Payments will be reduced to zero if your income is the same as or more than the average Australian weekly income. The average weekly income before tax is:
- $1,924.60 before 1 January 2026
- $2,011.40 from 1 January 2026.
Disaster Recovery Allowance is a taxable payment and needs to be included in your tax return.
You can get Disaster Recovery Allowance for a maximum of 13 weeks.
You have until 8 July 2026 to make a claim for the following Local Government Areas (LGAs):
- Burke
- Carpentaria
- Cloncurry
- Croydon
- Doomadgee
- Etheridge
- Flinders
- McKinlay
- Mount Isa
- Richmond
- Winton
Limitations
To get this payment, you must meet all of the following. You:
- lost some or all of your income as a direct result of the disaster
- earn less than the average Australian weekly income after this income loss
- work or live in a declared Local Government Area
- were 16 or older at the time of the disaster
- are an Australian resident or meet other residence rules.
You don't need to have lost all your income to be eligible for this payment. You can get DRA for a maximum period of 13 weeks, for each week your income is below the average weekly income.
