Purpose
Twice each year these grants are open to not-for-profit incorporated organisations who can establish their need for a funding contribution to projects which would benefit the Noosa community.
Overview
The Climate Change Response Grant is available for applications from eligible not-for-profit organisations for
projects which:
- Contribute to achieving emissions reduction for Noosa Shire .
- Contribute to building resilience to the impacts of climate change.
- Assist Noosa Shire's transition to 100% renewable electricity.
- Increase the awareness, education, capability, and capacity of Noosa residents to both reduce emissions and adapt to climate change impacts that are here now and increasing.
- Drive clean low emissions industry, and innovative technologies and solutions that grow the economy, reduce operating costs and deliver multiple co-benefits to community;
- Support a climate ready community that considers climate change in day-to-day life and business decisions;
- Facilitate sustainable, resilient and adaptive communities, buildings and infrastructure to help reduce the
- impacts of climate change and reduce emissions;
- Increase nature-based solutions to strengthen resilience and improve adaptation to climate change.
- Partner with the Kabi Kabi Peoples to embed Indigenous knowledge and science into climate change decision making, enable adaptation, and prioritise intergenerational wellbeing and holistic sustainability;
- Support vulnerable populations, ensuring inclusion in solutions and equitable access to opportunities and benefits;
- Accelerate the transition to sustainable transport and increasing mobility through clean technologies and active modes of transport such as walking and cycling;
- Enhance ecosystem health, adaptive capacity and carbon drawdown to improve biodiversity in the region;
- Advance programs to reduce food miles, by growing and distributing food locally and sustainably, enabled by sustainable land management and regenerative farming practices;
- Advance a zero waste circular economy where products and materials are reused and repurposed, and food and green waste are diverted from landfill.
Limitations
The grant program is available to organisations who are seeking a financial contribution to a project which will benefit the residents of the Noosa Shire community and who:
- Are a not-for-profit organisation as defined by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC) which are:
- An incorporated association
- A company limited by guarantee
- A non-trading/non-distributing co-operative
- An Indigenous corporation
- Comply with all governance and financial requirements of the State and Commonwealth as at the closing date for the grant program
- Have an active ABN
- Have a bank account in the name of the legal entity.
If not eligible the applicant may apply under an eligible auspice (administrator). The auspice organisation will take legal and financial responsibility for the grant and the project being delivered. See the section on auspicing below.
All applicants (including the auspice) must have:
- Appropriate insurances and adhere to sound Workplace Health and Safety practices
- No debt to Council, or have entered into scheduled payment arrangements that is being adhered to and
- Met obligations of agreement conditions for any previous Council grants.
