Purpose

The Environmental Grants provide financial assistance to incorporated community groups, organisations and individuals to undertake environmental and sustainability projects on public and private land within Corangamite Shire.

Overview

What types of things are funded through Environmental Grants?

  • Climate change related projects (e.g. projects that focus on carbon emission reductions, closed loop systems, energy conservation & waste reduction)
  • Sustainable agriculture projects (e.g. regenerative and innovative farm practices, reducing use of fertilizers and herbicides/pesticides, resource recovery and reducing farm waste)
  • Weed control to protect and enhance environmental assets
  • Protection and enhancement of remnant native vegetation
  • An increase in the extent, condition and connectivity of native vegetation
  • Improvements to soil health and water quality
  • Increased community understanding of environmental and sustainability issues

Examples of items that are eligible for funding include (but are not limited to):

  • Information brochures
  • Native gardens in a publicly accessible area
  • Weed control
  • Shelterbelts and revegetation with Indigenous plants

Funding is offered on a $1 for $1 basis (in cash or in kind) up to $3,000 to incorporated community groups, organisations and individuals to undertake environmental and sustainability projects on public and private land within Corangamite Shire.

Limitations

Projects must be based in Corangamite Shire. Applications are accepted from:

  • 1. Incorporated, not-for-profit organisations.
  • 2. Individuals.
  • 3. Kindergartens, Committees of Management, Special Committees.
  • 4. Primary and Secondary schools (not energy/water efficiency projects or projects that should otherwise form part of the normal educational curriculum).

The number of times an applicant has previously received funding through the Environment Support Grant will be considered during the assessment process. Council may choose not to fund projects by applicants who have previously received funding should the program be oversubscribed.

For community facilities, applicants must be the owner of the building/facility or have written consent from the owner. If the community facility is a Council owned building, the applicant must discuss the project with Corangamite Shire's Facilities and Recreation Manager prior to submitting the application.

Community environmental projects will be considered ineligible if they do not attempt to use electronic forms of communication, in addition to traditional paper methods.
