Purpose
Sustainability Grants supports activities that enhance the sustainability of Newcastle, through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, increasing resilience to the impacts of climate change and circular economy initiatives.
Overview
Outcomes:
- Creating a resilient city that reduces greenhouse gas emissions towards the goal of a net zero Newcastle.
- Facilitating a greater uptake of renewable energy, energy efficiency measures, electrification and community energy solutions.
- Improving capacity within the Newcastle community to understand, prepare for and respond to the impacts of climate change.
- Increasing community participation in and support for circular economy initiatives, such as reducing waste and promoting resource recovery, repair, reuse, regeneration and circular design.
Examples:
- Projects supporting the uptake of electric vehicles, solar, batteries, energy efficiency measures, or electrification.
- Solar or battery installations on community buildings. Workshops, tools, or educational resources tailored to CALD communities.
- Upcycle or repair events. Collecting waste and transforming it into new and useful products

- Legally constituted not-for-profit organisations
- Small businesses
- Individuals must be auspiced by eligible entity
