Purpose

Brisbane City Council's Lord Mayor's Community Fund (previously known as the Lord Mayor's Suburban Initiative Fund) supports community projects that build stronger communities in Brisbane.

Overview

Projects must contribute to the Brisbane Vision by helping achieve our aspirations to be a:

  • friendly and safe
  • active and healthy
  • clean and green, or
  • vibrant and creative city.

Each Council ward is allocated $44,000 for community projects undertaken within their ward. The Lord Mayor also allocates $44,000 for community projects that involve multiple wards.

Grant amounts range from $250-$10,000.

Examples of eligible community projects include the following.

  • Community events such as:
    • Australia Day ceremonies
    • fetes
    • events that charge an entry fee (e.g. fundraiser with a cover charge or festivals with a site entry fee).
  • Equipment hire for a community event.
  • Community facility improvements and equipment.
  • Funding towards community sporting organisations' equipment and activities within a ward.

Applications close at midnight on Wednesday 16 June 2027, or when each ward has spent their allocated budget (whichever occurs sooner).

Eligibility

Community organisations can apply for funding for local projects. Councillors can apply to support community events, activities or capital projects.

Eligible community projects must comply with all of the following:

  • Be for a community purpose.
  • Meet these guidelines of the LMCF program.
  • Identify the community benefit of the funding.
  • Identify additional funding support or in-kind support to be provided.
  • Contribute towards achieving one or more of the themes of Brisbane Vision 2031 and meet at least one LMCF priority.
  • Be implemented within 12 months of the date on the approval letter, unless otherwise agreed in writing by the responsible Councillor.
  • Be undertaken within the relevant Ward boundary and be of benefit to the local community (a community project may be considered for funding in another Ward within the Brisbane local government area subject to written approval from that Ward's Councillor).
