Purpose

AWARE is a competitive grant initiative of the Western Australian Government that invests in building capacity and preparedness activities at a local level.

Overview

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) provides executive and administrative support for the State Emergency Management Committee (SEMC) to administer the AWARE program.

A total of $219,940 in State Government funding is available in the 2026-27 AWARE grant round for projects that build emergency management capability.

Applicants can apply for between $2,500 and $35,000 (no GST applied) per application including local level risk assessment projects. The grant request can only account for up to 75 percent of the total project cost.

Eligibility

Only local governments are eligible to apply for an AWARE grant and may submit multiple applications. Local governments are encouraged to collaborate and submit joint applications.
