Purpose

Sporting and recreation clubs and associations directly affected by a declared natural disaster may be eligible for a low interest loan of up to $10,000 to support recovery.

Overview

The concessional loans can assist with costs associated with clean up, removal of debris and/or the restoration of essential facilities, equipment or other assets that have been damaged or destroyed by a natural disaster.

Visit the Declarations page to check that your Local Government Area (LGA) has been declared for a natural disaster event.

Applications must be lodged by the relevant close date listed for the disaster event and your LGA on the Declarations page.

Loan Term: Up to 5 years (depending on the amount borrowed and repayment capacity)

Loan Amount: $10,000 maximum

Interest Rate: 3.14%

Limitations

To be eligible for the loan, the sporting and recreation club or association must:

  • not operate for the profit or gain of its individual members, and any profit made by the organisation must go back into the operation of the organisation to carry out its purpose and not be distributed to any of its members 
  • have evidence of registration or incorporation as a sporting and recreation club or association
  • have assets and/or facilities that have been located in the defned disaster area of the declared natural disaster that have suffered direct damage as a result 
  • have been engaged in carrying on the sporting and recreation club or association at the time of the declared natural disaster 
  • demonstrate that the assistance will ensure the sporting and recreation club or association continues to be viable 
  • intend to re-establish or continue the sporting and recreation club or association within the same location or the same local government area (LGA) 
  • demonstrate that the sporting and recreation club or association has the capacity to repay the loan 
  • not be able to recover the costs associated with clean up, removal of debris and/or the restoration of essential facilities, equipment or other assets that have been damaged or destroyed as a result of the declared natural disaster through insurance
  • not have the financial capacity to pay the costs from its own funds or reserves.
