Purpose
Darebin Arts Speakeasy is an award-winning year-round independent performance development program offered at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre and Darebin Arts Centre.
Overview
This is a multi-artform program, spanning theatre, dance, circus, live art, and work that sits across and between those categories. The program is not guided by theme but looks to artists for their ability to make innovative, entertaining and engaging live performances that speak to the questions of our time.
They value work that can demonstrate an empathy with their Programming Priorities, which include:
- Original and compelling contributions to a cultural conversation
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led work
- Diverse local voices
- Addressing the climate emergency
- Access for all
Successful applicants receive a cash stipend and up to 2 weeks of in-kind room hire in one of our venues: Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre or Darebin Arts Centre.
Available spaces at Darebin Arts Centre and Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre include:
- Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre - West Wing Studio and Meeting Rooms
- Darebin Arts Centre - Studio
Limitations
- Once successful, Speakeasy Developments cannot then receive funding from other current Darebin Council support programs for the same stage of activity.
- Applicants do not have to be a Darebin resident to apply
- Applicants must be based in Victoria, though their collaborators may be based elsewhere.
- Darebin City Council staff are not eligible to apply for this program.
