The awards celebrate the contribution of historical research to our culture and communities, and to humanity at large. They encourage everyone to appreciate and learn from the efforts of our historians

The NSW Premier’s History Awards were first presented in 1997 to honour distinguished achievement in history by Australian citizens and permanent residents. 

Total prize money is $85,000. 

Nominations are sought for the following prizes:

• Australian History Prize ($15,000)
• General History Prize ($15,000)
• New South Wales Community and Regional History Prize ($15,000)
• Young People’s History Prize ($15,000)
• Digital History Prize ($15,000)
• The Anzac Memorial Trustees’ Military History Prize ($15,000)

Entry fee:  The early-bird entry fee is $75 (inc gst) for each work submitted by 5pm AEDT, Thursday 13 March 2025.  The fee is $100 (inc gst) for entries submitted after that date and up to the closing date of 5pm AEDT, Thursday 3 April 2025.  See guidelines for further information.

Eligible Entrants

• Writers, creators and illustrators must be living Australian citizens or persons holding permanent resident status.
• If the entry is co-authored, all writers, creators and illustrators must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
• Works published overseas are eligible if the author is an Australian citizen or holds permanent residency.
• Please note:  New Zealand citizens or persons holding permanent resident status are permitted to enter ‘The Anzac Memorial Trustees’ Military History Prize category only.
