Purpose
Financial support is available for victims and their families, witnesses and community members affected by the Bondi attack through the Home Affairs Scheme.
Overview
This grant provides reimbursement for transport, accommodation, counselling, and essential needs.
Reimbursement amounts may include:
- Transportation:
- Reimbursement for a cap of $6,000 per person applies for all travel-related claims.
- Accommodation:
- Reimbursement for accommodation falls within the cap of $6,000 per person for all travel-related claims.
- A travel allowance of $388 per person per day may be claimed for up to 35 days to cover accommodation, meals and incidental expenses.
- Counselling:
- After claiming the Medicare rebate for each session, reimbursement for the remaining out-of-pocket (gap) fee is available.
- The practitioner's total fee must not exceed $250 per session. Sessions charged above this amount are not eligible for reimbursement.
- Essential Needs:
- Reimbursement for a cap of $500 per person
Limitations
Who may be eligible:
Victims: A person who was present in Archer Park during the Bondi incident and has been physically or psychologically injured as a direct result of the incident, or a person who was in the immediate surrounds of Archer Park during the Bondi incident and has been psychologically injured as a direct result of witnessing the incident.
Family of a victim: A person who is an immediate family member of a homicide victim of the Bondi incident. This includes current spouses, de facto partners who were living with the victim when they died and had been living with them for at least 2 years, parents, step-parents, guardians, children, step-children, guardian children and siblings.
A victim support person: A person who is a related family member providing emotional, practical, or physical support to a victim or the family member of a victim, including grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.
Community member: A person from the broader community experiencing trauma as an indirect result of the Bondi incident. This may include persons with historical associations to other traumatic events, such as Holocaust survivors, or those from traumatic countries who have experienced conflict, violence or persecution.
