Purpose

The scholarship program is designed to celebrate, sustain and grow Indigenous art and design in New South Wales.

Overview

Applicants are invited to apply under one of nine creative disciplines. From these applications, one finalist per discipline will be selected by a dedicated judging panel. From the nine finalists, one overall recipient will be awarded the major scholarship.

The recipient will receive:

  • A $10,000 Scholarship from Greater Bank to support the winner's creative aspirations*

  • A mentoring session with a leading voice from their creative discipline

  • Guidance from Murrook Cultural Centre and the use of their facilities

Eight finalists will also receive a $1,000 cash prize, all proudly provided by our principal sponsor, Greater Bank.

The nine creative disciplines that are open for applications are:

  • Fashion design
  • Accessory design
  • Art painting
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Writing
  • Digital art
  • Film
  • Photography

Limitations

To apply for the Scholarship, you must be:

(a) of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent;

(b) a NSW Australian resident; and

(c) at least 16 years of age on 9 July 2026.

2.2 Proof of Aboriginality, age and residency may be required before being awarded the Scholarship.

The 'proof of Aboriginality' criteria requires that the applicant:

a) is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent;

b) self-identifies as an Aboriginal person; and

c) is accepted as such by the community in which the applicant lives

2.3 Finalists in the 2025 Scholarship are not permitted to enter in 2026. However, you may enter again in 2027. Finalists in the 2023 and 2024 Scholarships are permitted to enter in 2026.

2.4 You cannot apply for the scholarship if you or any immediate family member works for the Promoter, associated companies and agencies and participating outlets.

2.5 Applications under the age of 18 must obtain the prior permission of a parent or guardian 18 years of age or older to enter.

2.6 The Promoter reserves the right to verify parental consent. The parent or guardian may be called to verify consent and may be required to sign a release at the discretion of the Promoter. The release will also require the winner's parent or guardian to accept responsibility for the obligations of the Scholarship recipient (Recipient) and as a sufficient discharge of receipt. The release must include the full name, address and telephone number of the Recipient's legal guardian. Failure to provide such proof, particulars or releases will immediately invalidate the Recipient's entitlement to the Scholarship funding, subject to legislation.
