Purpose

The Hadley’s Art Prize, Hobart is an annual, acquisitive Australian landscape art prize to be awarded to the best portrayal of the Australian landscape.

Overview

The Hadley’s Art Prize, Hobart is an annual, acquisitive Australian landscape art prize offered by the owner(s) of Hadley’s Orient Hotel, Hobart, with a major prize of $100,000. The prize is to be awarded to the best portrayal of the Australian landscape.

The Hadley’s Art Prize, Hobart is open to Australian artists who are over the age of eighteen (18) years (see details below) who submit their own original landscape work in two-dimensional media (excluding photography and film) (the work).

A panel of three Australian art specialist judges will select the finalists and the winning entry. The winner will be announced at the opening of the exhibition finalists’ works at the galleries at Hadley’s Orient Hotel, Hobart, Tasmania. The winner of the People’s Choice Award (non- acquisitive) will be announced in the final week of the exhibition.

Limitations

Entering the Prize:

  • Entry is open to persons over the age of eighteen (18) years who are Australian citizens or permanent Australian residents. Artists who are short-listed as finalists will be required to prove Australian citizenship or permanent residency status. 
  • An entry requires:
    • Completion of the online entry form.
    • A non-refundable entry fee of $50 (GST inclusive).
    • A high-resolution image of the artwork .
    • A short artist statement about the work (no more than 100 words).
    • An up-to-date 1-page artist CV.
  • Artists can submit multiple entries but only one artwork by that artist can be selected for exhibition.
  • A collective work will be accepted under a single entry form with a one artist statement about the work (no more than 100 words).
  • Only the artist’s original work may be submitted by the artist.
  • Works will not be accepted from artists who are related to, employees of or have a financial interest in the organiser/s or organising body, including judges.
  • The judges have the sole discretion in relation to choosing the finalists and the awarding of prizes. The judges’ discretion in all matters shall be absolute and decisions final and binding upon all artists and parties.
  • Artists who are selected as finalists will be invited to send their work to Hadley’s Orient Hotel, Hobart for the exhibition to be viewed by the judges in person for the selection of the winner. Finalists must deliver their work at their expense on or before the requested time, and may do so in person, by their nominated representative or by post, freight or courier companies. Any work not received by the requested time shall be excluded from the exhibition.
