Purpose

To encourage, recognise, honour and reward the work of dedicated, talented, innovative and inspiring teachers.

Overview

The National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA) is the longest running, community based awards program that recognises teaching excellence in Australia and New Zealand. The NEiTA Foundation was founded in 1994 to deliver these awards and continues to be generously funded by Futurity Investment Group.

NEiTA objectives are to:

  • Recognise teachers and leaders who represent excellence within their teaching profession through their contribution to the advancement of education at a local, regional or national levels.
  • Raise community confidence in the teaching profession.
  • Encourage and support increased professional development of teachers.
  • Provide grants and award prizes to teachers and leaders who have demonstrated a particularly high level of dedication and professional expertise and excellence.
  • Encourage the enjoyment of learning.

All NEiTA winners receive up to a $10,000 Professional Development Grant, a glass blown apple trophy and a framed certificate. 

Limitations

Who can nominate: 

  • all teachers are encouraged to nominate themselves
  • parents, grandparents or guardians
  • colleagues, peers and school leaders
  • community organisations, school councils and parent associations

Who is eligible:

  • Must be qualified and registered teachers and principals in primary, special, and secondary schools in Australia or New Zealand.
  • Must have a minimum of two years' teaching experience.
  • Must be currently employed, meeting at least 0.6 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) per week
  • Nominee has not received a NEiTA Award in the past 3 years (except the NEiTA Trustees Alumni Award)
  • Has not received the NEiTA Trustees Alumni Award
