The Grassroots to Gold program aims to support eligible young athletes, coaches and officials to progress on a development pathway by providing financial assistance to help alleviate the costs associated with attending state, national and international events.

Young Queenslanders aged 10-18 years who are required to travel to compete, coach or officiate have three tiers of assistance, depending on the level of competition they or their team are selected for.

Eligible athletes, coaches and official can apply for up to two events per Financial Year (1 July - 30 June).

• state or state school event—$500
• national or national school event—$600
• international event—$800.

Submitting an application does not guarantee funding. Please read the Grassroots to Gold guidelines and terms and conditions prior to lodging your application.

An athlete, coach or official is eligible for a Subsidy if, at the time of application:

1. they have been selected to or have attended to compete, coach or officiate (as a referee or scorer) at an eligible Queensland State or State School event, eligible Australian National or National School event or eligible International Championship occurring after 1 July 2022. The list of eligible events in each tier is available at Grassroots to Gold;
2. they are a resident of Queensland . Athletes, coaches and officials who attend school or are members of a club in Queensland, but reside in another state, are not eligible for funding;
3. they are at least 10 years of age and under the age of 19 years on the start date of the event;
4. they travelled a road distance of at least 125 kilometres (one-way) from their place of residence to the event location; and
5. the Eligible Individual has not been approved for (or has submitted an application that is pending approval) more than 2 applications under Grassroots to Gold for eligible events with start dates within the same financial year (regardless of whether participating as an athlete, coach or official).
