Experience teaching, living and exploring rural and remote schools and communities, and gain insights into the personal and professional benefits of teaching and living in these communities.

If you're a preservice teacher and will undertake your professional experience placement in a Queensland state school in a rural or remote community, you may be eligible for the Beyond the Range Professional Experience Grant, which will provide you with up to $5,000* to assist with placement-related expenses.

The grant is designed to assist with placement-related expenses* (i.e., transport, accommodation, meals, incidentals) for eligible placements in term 2 (14 July to 19 September) or term 3 (7 October to 12 December) of the 2025 state school calendar:

• $3,375 - minimum consecutive 15 days
• $4,500 - 20 days
• $4,700 - 25-35 days
• $5,000 - 40+ days

*Please keep receipts and seek financial advice regarding potential implications for tax/income/benefits. If you are a current employee of the department, your grant will be taxed.

To be eligible to apply for this grant, you must:

• be completing your third or fourth year of an undergraduate Initial Teacher Education External link (ITE) program, or a postgraduate ITE program
• be undertaking a compulsory placement that is a minimum of 15 consecutive school days in a Queensland state school that:

• is at least 2 hours travel (each way) from your current home address to the state school
• has a transfer rating of TR4-TR7
• is located in 1 of the following priority geographic regions:

• Central Queensland External link
• Darling Downs South West External link
• Far North Queensland External link
• North Queensland External link
• North Coast External link - select state schools
