Purpose
Screen Australia's First Nations Department programs support creatively ambitious projects and people, and imaginative, resonant stories authored by Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners.
Overview
First Nations Feature Development
Who: Writers or teams with demonstrated experience and an idea they wish to explore in the longer feature format
What: Up to $30,000, or up to $45,000 if a producer is attached
First Nations TV Drama Development
Who: Writers or teams with demonstrated experience and a strong TV drama idea; supports the creation of appropriate written and/or visual materials to ensure projects are as strong as possible when competing for production finance
What: Up to $30,000 for one-off projects and up to $65,000 for series
First Nations Documentary Development
Who: Individual practitioners or teams with some experience; emerging practitioners are encouraged to apply
What: Up to $30,000 for one-off, feature-length documentaries; up to $30,000 for series; up to $20,000 for television one-hour documentaries;and up to $20,000 for online series
Limitations
To be eligible for assistance from Screen Australia's First Nations Department:
- a sole applicant must be an Australian Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander practitioner;
- projects must have Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander practitioners in 3 key creative roles at least as writer and director, and in the case of writing teams the lead writer must be First Nations Australian;
Applicants and their projects must meet:
- the general eligibility requirements set out in Screen Australia's Terms of Trade, and the eligibility requirements of the particular program.
- Applications must be made via the Application Portal on the Screen Australia website and include all supporting material listed.
