Purpose
The objectives of Equipment Grants are to support Administering Institutions to purchase equipment.
Overview
The objectives of Equipment Grants are to support Administering Institutions to:
- be strategic in the purchase of larger items of equipment that will benefit health and medical research in Australia;
- purchase equipment that will be used collaboratively;
- where possible, purchase Australian-made equipment; and
- provide ongoing service, upgrades, maintenance and repair costs for equipment used on NHMRC funded Research Activities.
Funding
- Total Amount Available (AUD): $6,077,578
- Estimated Grant Value (AUD): From $5,000 to $300,000
While considering the objectives NHMRC requires the following criteria to be met when making decisions on the equipment to be supported. Purchased equipment should:
- support highest quality health and medical research;
- not unnecessarily duplicate similar equipment in the institution or town/city; and
- promote collaborative gain, e.g. multi-user equipment which crosses disciplines, research groups and departments.
Equipment Grants funds should be considered in the sustainability of existing equipment used on NHMRC funded Research Activities for broader benefit and usage, whilst reducing wastage in line with the Australian Government’s Net Zero Plan.
Limitations
All Administering Institutions receiving NHMRC research funds are eligible to receive Equipment Grant funding. A list of NHMRC-approved Administering Institutions is available on NHMRC’s website. There will be a single Equipment Grant payment made to eligible institutions based on grant payments of the 2023/2024 financial year.
