The Direct Giving Program delivers targeted, practical financial relief to people experiencing immediate hardship across Australia. We work in close partnership with health professionals and community organisations to ensure support reaches those who need it most.

The Direct Giving Program offers funding for Australians facing acute financial stress-when support is urgently needed, and other options have been exhausted.

They work directly with social workers, case managers and allied health professionals across public health settings and charitable organisations to deliver timely, tailored support that can help maintain basic standards of safety, wellbeing, dignity or independence. Support may be requested for a wide range of needs-from whitegoods to accessibility items or items for personal safety.

This program operates in Victoria, New South Wales, ACT and Queensland.

To apply, eligible professionals must submit applications through their secure Grants Portal. They assess applications weekly and aim to respond quickly-because they know urgent needs don't wait.

Eligible Organisations

• Public hospitals and health services: Automatically eligible; no registration required.

• Existing community/charity partners: Must continue to provide ongoing case management and hold DGR Item 1 status.

Client Eligibility Criteria

Clients must:

• Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident,

• Be receiving ongoing case management from your organisation,

• Be in financial distress, with no suitable alternative funding options available (as assessed by qualified staff),

• Live in VIC, NSW, ACT or QLD,

• Not have received a small grant from The Hall Foundation (formerly The Walter & Eliza Hall Trust) previously.
