The purpose of Avant Foundation is to create transformational change in healthcare by funding medical research, medical education and health programs.

This involves three objectives:

1. supporting research that will improve safety, quality, professionalism and sustainability in the practice of medicine;
2. funding programs working with medical practitioners to improve patient care and health outcomes; and
3. helping doctors to overcome their experience of disadvantage in the pursuit of the medical or healthcare studies.

Avant Foundation Research Grant applications are open to

• universities
• charities
• medical research institutes
• medical/healthcare foundations
• medical colleges and societies
• hospitals or hospital group (public or private)
• local hospital networks or local health districts
• Primary Health Networks

The entity must:

• agree to the terms and conditions
• have the appropriate type and level of insurance for the activities that are the subject of the grant
• not owe any reports or money to Avant Foundation as a result of previous funding or grants

To be eligible for an Avant Foundation Research Grant, the project outlined in an application must:

• demonstrate alignment between the project and Avant Foundation’s objectives
• identify and track outcomes against Avant Foundation’s impact goals
• take place in Australia for the benefit of Australian communities
• not be a sponsorship request or fundraising appeal
• be funded in the majority by Avant Foundation and any other funding required for the project must have been secured
• have a medical doctor as an advisor on the project team
