Purpose
The Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP) helps connect events with the unique destinations they call home, ensuring the benefits of these events are felt far and wide across the State.
Overview
Destination Significant Event supports high-performing regional events to boost tourism outcomes, reinforcing Queensland's regional appeal and positioning these events as drivers of tourism and economic impact. These events attract overnight visitors from intrastate and interstate.
Events must have been staged for at least three years and must demonstrate their ability to attract overnight visitors from intrastate and interstate. Events must have previously received TEQ support.
Funding amount (ex. GST) - $40,000 - $100,000
Up to three consecutive years for a maximum of two funding terms (up to six years). Following the second term, events must show considerable growth to reapply for destination significant funding or transition to major event funding.
Events maintaining strong tourism outcomes without significant growth may reapply at the significant tier. Events with limited growth or declining outcomes may be required to take a one year break before reapplying for funding.
Two funding rounds each year
- Round 2: Opens 4th September to 9th October 2025 - for events held June 2026 to June 2027
- Round 1 2026: Opens end of February 2026 and closes mid April 2026 - for events held October 2026 to January 2028
Limitations
For Destination Significant Event funding, your event needs to meet this criteria:
- Be in its third year (or more) in the same Queensland location.
- Show evidence of previous QDEP funding support and successful contract fulfilment.
- Demonstrate a strong track record of growth and the ability to attract intrastate and interstate visitors.
If uncertain, please contact the QDEP Team to discuss via events@queensland.com
