Purpose
Remote Sporting Schools launches nationally in 2026, building on a successful pilot to support eligible remote and very remote schools (Prep - Year 12) across Australia.
Overview
The Remote Sporting Schools program has been developed to create more opportunities for students in Prep to Year 12 to participate in sport, recognising the unique challenges faced by schools in remote and very remote Australia.
Sporting Schools has partnered with more than 40 national sporting organisations (NSOs) and national sporting organisations for people with disability (NSODs) to facilitate delivery of programs.
Schools who receive a Remote Sporting Schools grant can:
- engage a sport or physical activity provider to deliver a program,
- deliver a teacher-led program
- deliver a multi-sport program, and/or
- combine with other schools to deliver activities together
Grants of between $5,000 and $10,000 (GST exclusive) are available for eligible schools (see eligibility criteria).
A school is eligible for one grant per funding period (2026 school year).
The grant comprises a base funding amount of $5,000 (GST exclusive)
Schools can request additional funding in increments of $1,000 of up to $5,000 (GST exclusive) in their grant application for the following reasons:

- Travel costs - coach
- Other reason/s provided by the applicant.
