Purpose

This grant opportunity is an extension of the previous Community Language Schools Grants Program which commenced in 2023-24. It is open to community language schools (CLS) which have not received funding under the previous program. CLS funded through the previous program are not eligible for this grant opportunity.

Overview

The Community Languages Schools Grants Program - Extension Round forms part of Program 2.5 Multicultural and Citizenship, within Outcome 2 of the Department of Home Affairs Portfolio Budget Statement. A total of $2.42 million (GST exclusive) is available for the grant opportunity, which will run over 4 years from 2025-26 to 2028-29. It will help contribute to the Australian Government's strengths-based approach to building on Australia's multicultural success.

  • Outcome 2: Support a united and prosperous Australia through effective coordination and delivery of immigration and citizenship policy and programs underpinned by robust integrity and assurance.
  • Program 2.5: Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship: To support a prosperous and inclusive society through the promotion, delivery and effective management of the Australian multicultural and citizenship programs.

This grant opportunity is an extension of the previous Community Language Schools Grants Program which commenced in 2023-24. The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:

  • strengthen the social inclusion and prosperity of Australia's successful multicultural society by supporting more young Australians to acquire a second language
  • connect young Australians to the languages of their parents, grandparents and broader communities
  • enable the participation of young Australians in a broader range of jobs in an economy closely integrated into a global market of diverse trading partners.

The grant opportunity consists of 3 tiers and a supplementary payment option eligible CLS can apply for. The maximum grant amount is expected to be $34,342 (GST exclusive), depending on the number of successful applicants, and approved funding tiers and supplementary payments.

Limitations

To be eligible you must be a CLS operating in Australia.

You must be one of the following legal entity types to apply for the program:

  • Company
  • Cooperative
  • Incorporated Association
  • Indigenous Corporation
  • Statutory Entity.

If you are applying as a Trustee on behalf of a Trust, the Trustee must have an eligible entity type as listed above.
