Purpose
The Remote Community Laundries Project will fund up to 12 new or upgraded, mobile or fixed laundries in eligible locations across the Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
Overview
This funding will improve community access to commercial-grade machines with clean hot water and medicative detergents helping to reduce irritants and infections that can lead to serious but preventable illnesses like:
- trachoma
- acute rheumatic fever
- rheumatic heart disease.
Successful providers will partner with communities to ensure laundries:
- address health outcome needs
- are fit-for-purpose
- reflect community priorities.
This project will also support local jobs and provide opportunities for upskilling and educational pathways.
This project contributes to Closing the Gap health outcomes 1 and 2 and economic outcomes 7 and 8.
Limitations
To be eligible you must:
- Have an Australian Business Number.
- Where relevant, be registered for the purposes of GST.
- Be a permanent resident of Australia.
- Have an account, in your name and which you control, with an Australian financial institution.
- Be one of the following entity types:
- an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006
- a company incorporated in Australia
- a company incorporated by guarantee
- an incorporated trustee on behalf of a trust
- an incorporated association (incorporated under state/territory legislation, commonly have 'Association' or 'Incorporated' or 'Inc' in their legal name)
- a partnership
- a joint (consortia) application with a lead organisation
- a registered charity or not-for-profit organisation
- an Australian local government body
- an organisation established through a specific piece of Commonwealth or state/territory legislation including public benevolent institutions, churches and universities.
The Agency can only accept applications that demonstrate:
- Partnership(s) with the local First Nations community to design and implement the laundry project.
- Alignment with local health need and to community priorities including, economic participation through local job creation, training and skills development.
- Service delivery in remote and very remote classified restricted Indigenous Areas across northern and central Australia (refer Appendix B of the Grant Opportunity Guidelines).
- Laundry facilities have access to existing local utilities and adhere with state and territory regulations.
