Incubator grants provide seed funding for the early stages of innovative new research efforts, with the aim of generating preliminary data needed to support future grant applications.

There are two rounds of Incubator applications. The research is expected to be completed within a year from the date that the grant is awarded. 

Applications for Incubator Grant Round 1 close 11:59pm AEDT 02 March 2026. The outcome for Round 1 will be announced in June/July 2026, with grants commencing in the second half of 2026. Applications for Incubator Grant Round 2 open on the 01 June 2026 and close 11:59pm AEDT 03 July 2026 with the outcome of Round 2 being announced in October/November 2026.

Applicants must:

• Be Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents (permanent residency status to be confirmed by time the grant commences).
• Be undertaking research at an Australian research institution.
• Have research experience.
• Use the grant for project costs, consumables and personnel essential to the project. Funds may not be used for travel expenses or conference attendance.
