Supports the development of new events in their first year of operation with strong tourism potential.

Overview

Previously known as the Queensland Destination Events Program, Homegrown has supported more than 1,000 events with more than $25 million in funding. The program has recently been refreshed to align with the Queensland Government's Destination 2045: Delivering Queensland's Tourism Future 20-year vision and will create even more opportunities for events to grow and thrive.

Events must demonstrate their ability to meet key objectives:

  • Generate economic activity in the host destination;
  • Attract external visitors to the destination;
  • Drive social and community outcomes for the host destination; and
  • Enhance the profile and appeal of the host destination.

The program is designed to help establish and grow new visitor-attracting events that align with Homegrown objectives.

Funding is available for up to two years. The second year depends on demonstrating tourism outcomes in the first year. To be considered for year two, credible evidence must show that your event attracted out of-region visitors and delivered visitor economy outcomes, supported by post-event reporting and research. Successful events may apply for Homegrown Destination Signature funding stream in year three pending successful completion of defined tourism outcomes, however funding is not guaranteed and will be subject to the Homegrown assessment process.

Limitations

Events must be new (first year of operation or inactive for at least three years) and align with Homegrown objectives to attract out-of-region visitors and boost the local visitor economy. Applicants must get written confirmation from the Event's Local Council or Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO) that their cash investment is matched or exceeded before applying

The event must meet the following criteria:

  • Be held in the same Queensland destination, it cannot rotate to other locations.
  • Destination Kickstarter - must be a new event (in their first year of operation or having not run for at least three years)
  • The most recent event must have occurred before submitting the application.
  • Align with the funding round's eligible event dates.
  • Clearly demonstrate how the funding will contribute to the growth of tourism outcomes, including increased overnight visitor expenditure.
  • The applicant must have an ABN, be either a Corporation registered with ASIC, an Incorporated Association or other body corporate
