Purpose

Supports high-performing regional events to boost tourism outcomes, reinforcing Queensland's regional appeal and positioning these events as drivers of tourism and economic impact.

Overview

Previously known as the Queensland Destination Events Program, Homegrown has supported more than 1,000 events with more than $25 million in funding. The program has recently been refreshed to align with the Queensland Government's Destination 2045: Delivering Queensland's Tourism Future 20-year vision and will create even more opportunities for events to grow and thrive.

Events must demonstrate their ability to meet key objectives:

  • Generate economic activity in the host destination;
  • Attract external visitors to the destination;
  • Drive social and community outcomes for the host destination; and
  • Enhance the profile and appeal of the host destination.

These events attract overnight visitors from intrastate and interstate.

Up to three consecutive years for a maximum of two funding terms (up to six years). Following the second term, events must show considerable growth to reapply for Destination Significant funding or transition to Major event funding. Events maintaining strong tourism outcomes without significant growth may reapply at the Significant tier. Events with limited growth or declining outcomes may be required to take a one-year break before reapplying for funding.

Limitations

Events must have been staged for at least three times previously (within the last four years) and must demonstrate their ability to attract overnight visitors from intrastate and interstate. Events must have previously received TEQ support.

The event must meet the following criteria:

  • Be held in the same Queensland destination, it cannot rotate to other locations.
  • Destination Significant - be in its fourth or more year
  • The most recent event must have occurred before submitting the application.
  • Align with the funding round's eligible event dates.
  • Clearly demonstrate how the funding will contribute to the growth of tourism outcomes, including increased overnight visitor expenditure.
  • The applicant must have an ABN, be either a Corporation registered with ASIC, an Incorporated Association or other body corporate
