Purpose

The Lady Bowen Trust aims to support organisations to provide practical support to people experiencing homelessness, or who have a history or homelessness, to transition to stable accommodation.

Overview

The Lady Bowen Trust is an independent charity dedicated to assisting Queenslanders, who are homeless and have complex individual needs, to achieve safe and secure shelter and build a better future.

The Lady Bowen Trust works in partnership with charitable organisations to provide small grants that make a big difference in the lives of people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness.

Grants of up to $15,000 per organisation, per year.

Thousands of Queenslanders have benefited from the distribution of over $2.8 million during the last 19 years. These flexible funds have been distributed through our community-based partners via an annual grant program and other funding channels. The funders processes have been intentionally designed to be flexible and low-document, so their partners spend less time on paperwork and more time with people.

Priority for funding will be awarded to organisations providing services and support to the following groups of people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness that align with one or more of the following:

a) Queenslanders experiencing homelessness, or at risk of homelessness, particularly as a result of recent natural disasters.

b) Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Queenslanders experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

c) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

d) People experiencing domestic and family violence and who as a result are at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness.

e) Older women who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

f) Queenslanders in rural and regional locations experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

Limitations

An eligible organisation must:

  • have a Designated Gift Recipient (DGR) status as determined by the Australian Taxation Office;
  • if they have previously received funds from the Lady Bowen Trust, have completed reporting requirements, or be within current reporting requirements to the satisfaction of the Board of Advice of the Lady Bowen Trust; and
  • provide assistance to people in Queensland experiencing homelessness, or with a history of homelessness, and who are in necessitous circumstances.
