Purpose

The AAG Research Trust seeks to fund Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led projects that relate to ageing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Overview

The AAG Research Trust seeks to fund Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led projects that relate to ageing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. In so doing, the grant aims to:

  • Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander early career researchers and practitioners working across the multidisciplinary field of ageing to build their skills and capacity.
  • Develop evidence-based knowledge about ageing in First Nations communities that takes an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective and standpoint to inform policy and program development.

In 2026, one grant of up to $25,000 will be awarded for projects that may take up to 24 months to complete. A possible second grant of up to $25,000 with a substantive dementia focus may also be funded through AAG's partnership with Dementia Australia Research Foundation.

Eligibility

This grant offers broad selection criteria, with applications open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members of AAG. All applications to this grant program must:

  • Have an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student, early career researcher or practitioner as the lead investigator.
  • Engage with the strengths and positive aspects of ageing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and amongst older First Nations peoples.
  • Demonstrate how they will build their skills and capacity in research, policy and practice.
  • Develop evidence-based knowledge about ageing in First Nations communities that takes an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective and standpoint to inform policy and program development.

All applicants:

  • Must be AAG members when they apply for a grant and for the full duration of the funded project.
  • May lead only one grant application per funding round but may be a co-investigator on other applications to any AAG Research Trust grant program.
  • May be the lead investigator on only one current AAG Research Trust grant of any kind at one time.

Please note: The funder respectfully offer a waiver of the membership fee for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, in recognition of the depth and importance of First Peoples' knowledge and voices in shaping AAG and our work.
