Purpose
Japanese Studies Mini Grants are designed to support small-scale local projects that will further Japan-related scholarship in Australia by contributing to intellectual exchange and the enhancement of academic networks.
Overview
In principal, the FY2026-27 Mini Grants will focus on supporting academic projects with allocations of up to $3,500 (incl. GST) per project.

Eligibility
- Australian non-profit organisations (universities, research institutes, NGO/NPO etc.) are eligible to apply. Applications from individuals will not be accepted.
- The purpose of the applicant's project must be to develop a wider understanding of Japan through the exchange of ideas at an academic level. Projects may include conferences, lectures, presentations, publications or any other project deemed to fit the remit of Japanese Studies and Intellectual Exchange.
- Projects must be in the humanities, social sciences or related fields. Projects must be carried out in Australia.
- Project must be completed by February 6, 2026.
