Supports the development of new events in their first year of operation with strong tourism potential.

A co-investment between TEQ and the destination to establish and grow visitor-attracting events aligned with Homegrown objectives.

Funding Amount (ex. GST)

Up to $25,000 per year (must be matched or exceeded by Local Council, RTO, State or Federal government cash contribution)

Term

Up to 2 years. Year two contingent on demonstrating tourism outcomes in year one, supported by post-event reporting and research. Successful events may then apply for Destination Signature funding in future rounds.

Events: 

• Must be a new event (first year, or inactive for 3+ years); not a rebrand of an existing event.
• Must align with Homegrown objectives to attract out-of-region visitors.
• Written confirmation required from Local Council, RTO or State/Federal department that cash investment is matched or exceeded (in-kind does not count).
• Forecast attendance must be evidence-based with reasonable assumptions.

The event must meet the following criteria:

• Be held in the same Queensland destination, it cannot rotate to other locations.
• Destination Kickstarter - must be a new event (in their first year of operation or having not run for at least three years)
• The most recent event must have occurred before submitting the application.
• Align with the funding round's eligible event dates.
• Clearly demonstrate how the funding will contribute to the growth of tourism outcomes, including increased overnight visitor expenditure.
• The applicant must have an ABN, be either a Corporation registered with ASIC, an Incorporated Association or other body corporate
