Purpose
Some people need specialist equipment to make a phone call. They can rent it from Telstra or Optus for the same cost as a standard phone or buy their own. There are also teletypewriter (TTY) payphones in some areas.
Overview
Telstra's Accessibility Equipment Program offers accessible home phones or text telephones/Teletypewriter (TTY). To be eligible, users need to be unable to use a standard telephone handset.
Optus customers are able to rent a TTY telephone. There is no minimum lease term and you can cancel at anytime without incurring any end of lease or equipment return fees.
