Through teaching and research affiliations with all South Australian universities, the BHI provides valuable basic and clinical research training opportunities.

THRF Group's funding is supporting the following research scholarship categories:

• Vacation Scholarships of up to $200/week for a maximum of eight (8) weeks
• Honours Scholarships of $5,000 for one (1) year
• Masters by Coursework of $5,000 per year for up to two (2) years
• Top-up for Higher Degree by Research students of an additional $8,000 per year for either a PhD (up to 3.5 years) or Masters (2 years).

Applicants must:

• be enrolled in or be accepted for enrolment in an HDR program at a university in South Australia, commencing in 2026 and no later than 1st July 2026
• have applied for or been awarded a competitive university HDR scholarship (the "Base" scholarship)
• undertake most (no less than 70%) of their HDR candidature at TQEH precinct be supervised in their HDR candidature under the primary supervision of a BHI-affiliated research supervisor and
• possess study rights via:
  • Australian citizenship or
  • Permanent residency in Australia granted by 31st October 2025 or
  • a valid student visa.

Applicants are ineligible if any of the following apply:

• They have completed a degree at the same or higher level
• They are receiving salary to undertake the proposed study, or are in receipt of any other supplementary stipend/support funding in addition to a "base" competitive HDR scholarship, including (but not limited to) an existing BHI Top-up scholarship, via the CALHN Clinician PhD Pathway, Westpac Scholarship or other supplementary scholarship.
