Purpose
The Gill Owen Scholarship supports an individual to travel internationally to research innovative ideas and initiatives that will be relevant to improving outcomes for consumers in the Australian energy market.
Overview
Energy Consumers Australia values the ongoing exchange of ideas and experiences that the late Gill Owen championed. This scholarship supports research into international innovations, policies, and programs that can improve outcomes for Australian energy consumers in a rapidly evolving energy market.
Applications are invited for a grant of up to $15,000 to undertake overseas research that explores approaches relevant to Australian's energy transition.
Examples of activities that could be funded include:
- visits to one or more countries to learn from energy consumer activities and experiences;
- meetings with key stakeholders in selected countries;
- research on issues or relevance to Australian energy consumers;
- written report documenting the learnings from the research and or overseas stakeholder meetings and their potential relevance for Australia; and
- in Australia, meetings with consumer groups, energy companies, government officials to promulgate research findings and recommendations.
Limitations
Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate most of the following attributes:
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency and aged 18 years or older.
- Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN) or be affiliated with an organisation or company that can receive Scholarship payment directly.
- Experience in evidence-based research or advocacy relating to energy consumer issues.
- Knowledge of the key issues in the Australian energy market that drive energy consumer outcomes.
- Networking and communication skills to meet people, including senior officials and academics in your chosen country(ies).
